The Importance of Analytics

For a lot of people, analytics can be boring. When you have something like a hybrid cloud solution, you just want it to work and let you get on with what you need to do. Monitoring and responding to security and performance issues are important, but can be tedious. And let’s face it, if something is tedious, chances are you’re just going to put it on the long finger and hope that the last half an hour of the work day will be enough to get it sorted. To help with all this, let me introduce you to Citrix Application Delivery Management.

NetScaler is a highly intuitive piece of software, providing centralised network management, automation, analytics, orchestration (not quite sure about hybrid cloud orchestration? I’ve already written a great blog on the subject)…. All of these tools can help you to support the various applications deployed across your hybrid cloud and containerised infrastructures. You might find yourself asking these questions; is whatever Alan is doing on the network any different from what he would normally be doing? Does a particular workload normally speak to this other workload? Has user experience changed over time? What applications and data are being used the most? These are all questions that, for one reason or another, can be important to ask. With Citrix Cloud Analytics, our clients can ask these important questions (and plenty more). By deploying Application Delivery Management, it is possible to gain a deeper insight into what is happening in your hybrid cloud environment.

The world of business is ever-changing and always innovative. There are new and cool apps appearing every day, promising to not only make your tasks easier, but also keep you customers happy. That’s why it’s so important to embrace digital transformation. This digital transformation is changing the way that applications, much like the ones you use every day, are being developed and deployed. The last thing you want is application downtime, since it will cost you money, and lots of it. One of the biggest innovations in the world of tech? You guessed it; cloud. This wonderful, futuristic phenomenon allows the much more simplistic deployment of applications and data centres. And Citrix Application Delivery Management will help you to embrace all of the possibilities of cloud to make that big job of analytics as easy as possible. Who knows, you might be able to actually go on holiday for once and leave the crucial job of monitoring to your assistant. I swear, it’s possible.

There have been so many changes in recent years in application architectures, which have been prompting the need for changes in application delivery services technology. With increasing demands, applications have become much more complex, which results in more complicated availability and troubleshooting. Add in the cloud, and all of this becomes more difficult. Thankfully, Citrix Application Delivery Management is here to meet the needs of your IT team. We’re all trying to move to transform our IT infrastructures by moving to cloud. And with that, Application Delivery Management  provides much more control and visibility.

Citrix Application Delivery Management allows you to proactively manage user and application security threats, improve application performance and support continuous operations through actionable insights collected across Citrix offerings. It has been enhanced to provide valuable insight into the performance and security of your application delivery infrastructure from an application perspective, defining how they map onto the ADC configuration. This makes it easier for you to determine the state of an application, and therefore use an application-centric approach to easily collaborate with application owners. With its new application health score, Application Delivery Management summarises how well an application is performing based on an industry-standard APDEX scoring. This allows you to investigate instances of user satisfaction as well as other performance metrics and assessments of security threats.

If you’re looking for seamless integration with many leading orchestration platforms that you deploy to automate your data centre infrastructure, NetScaler has it all. More and more data centres are moving towards the cloud, working towards a fully SaaS-based infrastructure model (and I bet yours is too). With that, automating all of those supporting services will become more important. Citrix Application Delivery Management is API-driven, enabling orchestration and analytics across a lot of third-party platforms. It also allows easy management and orchestration of containerised services as well as automating NetScaler lifecycle management and provisioning. That’s a lot of automation that should make your life that much easier. You’re welcome.

Embrace Digital Disruption

How do the words change and disruption make you feel? From my perspective, disruption and subsequent change is exciting and progressive – it’s a sign of innovation, continuous improvement and gaining competitive advantage. But admittedly, I know for some those words are pretty daunting. But to be totally frank, regardless of how you feel about it, disruption and change is always going to be part of the world we live in. Without change, we cannot be better than we were yesterday – but our competitors embracing change can be…

Last week we kicked off a series of workshops, Accelerate Your Transition to Citrix Cloud, where we are showcasing to organisations how they can embrace digital disruption and in the process propel their organisation into a new era of digital workspaces where you will benefit from greater choice, performance, and security. Now, I’m sure you’ll agree, those words are definitely not to be shied away from…

Choice
Digital disruption is fundamentally changing the IT landscape. Cloud really is no longer just an over-used buzz word that is banded around – it is a reality that is changing they way organisations deliver and consume services with 44% of enterprise traffic from public cloud. And with the average business using 13+ cloud applications, organisations must both embrace and consider how they deliver and manage what in most cases is a hybrid or multi-cloud environment.

This is where Citrix Workspace is proving powerful – enabling organisations to overcome cloud sprawl without sacrificing the benefits of the cloud by enabling an efficient and comprehensive way to organize, manage and secure all cloud services used across the organization – whether these be SaaS applications, behind-the-scenes workloads, or file storage and sharing. But, not only catering for cloud, it also bridges legacy, on-premise and custom apps and data stores upon which businesses continue to rely on. Through the Secure Digital Workspace we can provide secure, simplified access and control of apps and data across any device, platform in hybrid & multi-cloud world – empowering your organisation with choice and options both now and in the future.

Performance
Not forgetting of course that with the rise of cloud, bandwidth intensive applications and an increasing number of network-connected devices, networking becomes the lifeblood of your organisation proving critical to availability, performance and subsequent user experience. As many organizations are starting to use hybrid and multi-cloud architectures to deliver their business applications, all too often, organisations networks just aren’t reliable enough to make it a reality.

This is where Citrix Networking comes into play creating a secure digital perimeter connection, NetScaler SD-WAN supports multiple underlying links and then intelligently directs traffic across these to ensure the highest possible quality of connection. SD-WAN addresses the needs of enterprises for secure, high quality, always-on access to applications and data that can be easily deployed at scale and with centralised visibility and control. It is a fully integrated platform that virtualises enterprise WANs to help you reduce bandwidth requirements, increase application performance, simplify branch office networking and gain flexibility through a hybrid WAN architecture. Ensuring the availability and performance to make multi-cloud a reality for your organization.

Security
We can’t talk about disruption without speaking about security. The threat landscape is rife… I do not know one organisation from which security is not a top priority for 2018. The reality is that work is now distributed, users working from anywhere, and everything is connected. They are using applications from on premises, SaaS, or other web or cloud locations – creating a surface area too vast for traditional security approached to be effective. And with the average time to discover a breach 200 days, the damage an attack could cause is frightening. Of course, there are point solutions available to deliver apps and content securely and reliably however point solutions only add to IT complexity. With 83% of businesses believing the complexity of their organizational structures and IT infrastructure is putting their companies at even greater risk for security breaches its important to rethink their approach to security.

This is where Citrix’s people centric approach to security is proving effective – by focusing on the knowns, rather that the unknowns, we are able to apply policies and contextualise security based on real-time interactions with networking, applications and data. Through the secure digital perimeter we are able to simplify security for the IT department so they can minimize attack surfaces, centralize policy control and implement people-centric security measures. We are able to provide 360 visibility by aggregating analytics, logs and flows whilst giving visibility across SaaS, hybrid and multi-cloud environments. And finally, through intelligent analytics we are able to share threat intelligence across all services, detect and stop malicious user behaviors, and trigger contextual reactions and policies in real time.

The opportunity presented by digital disruption is vast – after all, digital disruption wouldn’t be disrupting if the benefits from embracing it weren’t greater than from the way we did things in the past. Think about what the future looks like and how Citrix Secure Digital Workspaces can play a part in supporting your strategy at our upcoming events.

Citrix Summit 2017

This week I attended Citrix’s annual partner conference – Citrix Summit – in Anaheim, California. As a specialist Citrix Platinum partner, we attend the event each year to ensure we are primed to inform our customers about the latest updates, announcements, vision and roadmap. You can register here to hear Cetus and Citrix deliver the very latest updates from Citrix Summit.

The event kicked off with a vision keynote which allowed the senior leadership team at Citrix, lead by president and CEO Kirill Tatarinov, to offer perspective on industry transformation and position Citrix’s vision for helping customers leverage innovation and strategic partnerships in 2017 to achieve business objectives and outcomes.

Throughout the entirety of the keynote, tech talks and the numerous breakout tracks, Citrix’s strategy was clear and consistent. To provide integrated technology services that make apps and data secure and easy to access, and as a result help organisations of all sizes achieve the speed and agility necessary to grow and succeed in a rapidly changing world.

Within the content, some key themes emerged and took predominant focus in my opinion; Citrix’s Cloud Strategy, the strategic partnership with Microsoft, and integration of solutions (in terms of user experience and administration).

Citrix’s Cloud Strategy
There is no hesitation that Citrix are rapidly moving towards a cloud-first strategy, with Citrix Cloud providing a single place to access all Citrix technologies in the cloud. It’s quickly becoming the fastest, simplest and most flexible way to deliver Citrix technology to any device over any network – therefore a very interesting and attractive update was the launch of Citrix Cloud Accelerator; a comprehensive set of transition and trade-up offers for customers who own existing XenApp or XenDesktop licenses and want to move to Citrix Cloud. Also made available is a XenApp on Azure Cost Calculator, which is a tool that Cetus can help you use to provide you with a complete set of cost estimates for deploying Citrix XenApp on Microsoft Azure. In addition, a new Citrix Ready HCI Workspace Appliance Program was launched that enables hyper-converged appliances from hardware and storage partners to connect into Citrix Cloud.

Strategic partnership with Microsoft
Over the past year, Citrix and Microsoft have built the foundations and now Citrix are stepping it up a gear to further accelerate their joint innovation.

– The integration of Citrix NetScaler Unified Gateway with Microsoft Intune
Citrix unveil the integration of NetScaler Unified Gateway with Microsoft EMS. Together, Citrix and Microsoft joined forces to deliver to our customers a solution that offers conditional access for mobile users.  Conditional access delivers an added level of security for mobile users which helps customers protect their on-premise resources

– The launch of XenApp Essentials and XenDesktop Essentials
Available in the Azure Marketplace, XenApp Essentials and XenDesktop Essentials make it easier for customers to accelerate secure app delivery and cloud-based Windows 10 VDI, empowering IT to align apps and desktop services with business needs, while delivering the superior experience, reliability and value associated with XenApp and XenDesktop.

– Collaboration between Citrix & Microsoft on Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS)
The expanded Citrix partnership with Microsoft includes powerful collaboration to significantly enhance value for Microsoft Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS) customers with Citrix capabilities for delivering enterprise-grade productivity combined with device and data security managed over the network. This Azure-based Citrix solution for EMS will include micro-VPN capability for secure, identity-based access to on-premises applications on EMS managed devices, providing the most comprehensive mobility solution available in the market. In addition, later this year, the solution will also include versions of Citrix market-leading productivity apps, such as Secure Mail and Secure Web that customers will be able to manage with EMS.

Wrapping up this blog for now on the note of integration.
